The No. 24 Trevecca softball team (23-11, 6-6) hosted No. 21 Lee
University (23-11, 7-5) and dropped both games. Lee used several
Trevecca miscues to claim an 8-2 victory and then won a hard fought
7-6 ten inning marathon in game two.
(Game One) -- Trevecca scored one in the bottom of the second
inning to take the lead, but gave up five runs in the top of the
third and would never threaten the lead again in game one. Trevecca
added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Lee again answered with
two in the top of the sixth and another run in the top of the
seventh. Wendy Allen relieved starter Holly Shane in the top of the
third and took the loss. Jami Toomey homered for Trevecca, but that
was overshadowed by Fannie Harr's two solo homers for Lee. Wendy
Allen falls to 6-4 on the season, while Lee's Jamie Ensminger
improved to 8-5 with the win.
(Game Two) -- Trevecca took the lead in game two with three runs
in the bottom of the third. Lee replied with another five run inning
in the top of the fifth inning. Trevecca tied the game with two runs
in the bottom of sixth to eventually send the game to extra innings.
Both teams scored a run in the eight inning. Lee scored another run
in the top of the tenth and Trevecca couldn't respond to extend the
game past the tenth. Hollie Shane took the loss for Trevecca and
fell to 12-6 on the season. lee's Jessica Pike picked up the win and
improved to 10-4 on the season.
Trevecca suffered an even worse loss as freshman starting
shortstop Evyn Terry, after missing four games due to a knee injury,
was diagnosed with a torn ACL and will be out for the rest of the
season. Before her injury, Terry was tied for 16th in the TranSouth
Conference with a .316 batting average with 14 RBIs and four
triples. The Lady Trojans are also playing without starting third
baseman sophomore Rone' Phelps who suffered a shoulder injury in the
same game as Terry. It is not yet known when Phelps will be able to
return.
Trevecca will host Judson College on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
