Trevecca Nazarene University vs.
Freed-Hardeman University
(Nashville, Tenn.) -- Trevecca
hosted No. 13 Freed-Hardeman on the heels of a four game win streak
and having won 9 of their last 11 games. The last four wins were all
on the road. The Trojans have road wins at Dillard University,
Lambuth University, No. 6 Martin Methodist, and Union University.
Trevecca had played 10 of their first 17 games on the road.
This game, however, would require everything the Trojans could
handle. The high scoring battle remained fast-paced throughout the
entire first half with neither team having a decisive lead. Despite
shooting 33% from the free throw line in the first half, the Trojans
went into halftime only down by 2 points by a score of 52-50. In the
second half, Trevecca led for much of the game but could never quite
pull away. Led by Sophomore Wesley Poe (17 points, 4 rebounds, 3
assists, 3 steals) and Bootsy Hyler (17 points, 3 assists, 2
steals), the Trojans found themselves with the ball down by 1 point
with 1.8 seconds to go. The final play, however, came up short as a
Darryl Keckler three-pointer bounced off the front of the rim to
give Freed-Hardeman a 90-89 victory.
Senior Will Partin finished with 15 points and 4 assists while
senior Darryl Keckler added 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3
steals. Marko Kandic contributed 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Trevecca falls to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in the TranSouth
Conference. Trevecca will host Cumberland University on Monday,
January 27 at 7:00 p.m. The game with the Bulldogs was originally
scheduled for January 16, but the game was snowed out.
