(Jackson, Tenn.) -- Trevecca traveled to Jackson and defeated
Lambuth on their home floore 72-67. Trevecca had lost twice
previously this season to Lambuth. 77-70 at Trevecca then a few days
later 122-88 in the Belhaven College Classic in Jackson, Miss.
Early on it appeared Lambuth would sweep all three games this
seasaon after starting the game with a 13-4 advantage. Trevecca
responded with a 12-2 run and gained the lead (16-15) with 11:07 to
go in the first half. The teams would end of the first half tied at
29. Trevecca was an uncharacteristic 0-6 from three-point range in
the first half.
With a 36-35 lead early in the second half, Trevecca pulled away
with a 9-0 run to take a 45-35 lead. With Trevecca leading 53-41,
Lambuth scored 8 straight to pull to within 4. That was as close as
Lambuth would get the remainder of the game.
Darryl Keckler had 3 second half three-pointers to lead the team
with 20 points. Keckler hit 3-of-6 from beyond the three-point arch
and hit 7-of-10 from the foul line. Marko Kandic led the team with 9
rebounds and added 14 points after hitting 7-of-11 from the field.
Wes Poe and Brandon Howard scored 11 and 10 points respectively to
round out the double-figure scores for the Trojans. Poe had 6
rebounds and 2 blocks. Lambuth eged Trevecca 42-37 on the boards.
Trevecca is 32-30 versus Lambuth and improved to 9-5, while
Lambuth fell to 10-6 on the year. Trevecca will start conference
play on Thursday as conference newcomer Cumberland University visits
at 8:00 p.m.
