Trevecca defeated Shorter College 89-69 on the opening night of
the Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic in memory of Earnestine Morgan
Richardson. Trevecca led 42-31 at halftime and then extended the
lead to 21 points in the second half before settling for the 20
point win.
Trevecca senior Darryl Keckler led all scorers with 18 points and
led the team with 9 assists. The 18 point gives Keckler 1,001 career
point making him the 27th Trojan to surpass the 1,000 point mark.
His 9 assists also moved him into 8th place on the career assists
list. He passed his former coach and Trevecca hall of famer Tim Bell
and Brad Whitlow on the list.
Marko Kandic scored 12 points and led the team with 9 rebounds in
his Trevecca debut. Josh Crenshaw, a former Gallatin Greenwave star,
also made his Trevecca debut and added 4 points and 5 rebounds.
Marshall Hyler scored 17 points and Wesley Poe scored 12 points. Poe
also had 3 blocks and 3 steals. Will Partin led the team with 4
steals and scored 8.
Trevecca outrebounded Shorter 45-41 and forced the Hawks into 30
turnovers, while only turning the ball over 23 times.
Trevecca is now 2-0 in the all-time series with Shorter College.
Earlier in the day Olivet Nazarene defeated Geneva College 74-69.
Saturday will see Geneva take on Shorter at 2:00 p.m., with
Trevecca facing Olivet at 4:00 p.m.
