Trevecca Nazarene University vs.
Lipscomb University
(Nashville, Tenn.) -- Trevecca (20-12, 4-5) returned a visit to
NCAA Division-1 opponent Lipscomb University (7-18) on Wednesday.
Trevecca defeated Lipscomb 17-8 earlier this season at Jackson
Field.
Lipscomb returned the favor with a 4-1 victory in the rematch.
Lipscomb scored their four runs with eight hits and played errorless
ball. Patrick O'Rourke was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Bisons.
O'Rourke led the Bisons with three hits,
including a two-out double to right field with the bases loaded in
the bottom of the sixth that brought home Ryan Boyer, Todd Boucher
and Nathan McCorkle. Ben Blumenthal had a double to left in the
eighth inning and scored on a one-out single to left by O'Rourke. In
addition to timely hitting, the Bisons were flawless in the field.
Trevecca managed just one run on seven hits as Billy Johnson
drove in Dusty Johnson in the seventh inning. Trevecca helped
Lipscomb's cause with three errors.
Bison pitchers Matthew Griffith, David Patton and Seth Kuwick
combined for the victory. Griffith pitched a solid 4 1/3 shutout
innings to start, striking out two and walking two while scattering
four hits. Patton picked up his first victory of the season, hurling
2 2/3 innings while giving up one run and two hits. Kuwick earned
his second save, getting three strikeouts and allowing one hit in
two innings.
Todd Dunlap (1-3) took the loss after giving up 3 runs in 6.1
innings. Former Bison Shawn Sabo finished the final 1.2 innings for
the Trojans. The Bisons ended an
eight-game losing streak, pounding out eight hits.
