(Jackson, Field) -- Trevecca (20-10, 4-4) hosted No. 5 Cumberland
University (24-10, 5-3) for a three game conference series. On
Friday afternoon Cumberland won 2-8 to begin the first of three
games this weekend. On Saturday, the Trojans came back strong.
(Game 1) -- Bouncing back after yesterday's loss, the Trojans
came back for a dramatic come-from-behind win over Cumberland 9-6.
After Trevecca senior Billy Johnson and junior Kyle Felts began the
bottom of the first and fourth innings respectively with lead off
home runs, Cumberland scored two of their own to tie the game at
2-2. Trevecca added two more runs led by senior Randall Harbert who
launched a solo homer to take the 5th inning 4-2 lead. Cumberland
countered with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth
inning but Trevecca added 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th with a
rally capped by a three run blast off the bat of junior Justin
Curtis to take the lead. The Bulldogs of Cumberland added one run in
the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough as Trevecca took the 9-6
victory. Senior Eddy Sanchez improved to 6-0 on the season picking
up the win for the Trojans and senior Nathan Brown got the save in
the 7th inning.
(Game 2) -- Cumberland proved why their the #5 team in the NAIA
with a seven run second inning in the second game to take the 8-5
victory. Cumberland's Mike Navratil and Tavaris Gary combined for
three home runs including a grand slam from Navratil in the second
inning to give Trojan pitcher B.J. Jenkins the loss. Trevecca's Eric
Reid homered in the losing effort.
Trevecca will visit NCAA Division 1 opponent Lipscomb University
on Wednesday, March 26 at 2pm. The Trojans already defeated Lipscomb
earlier this season 17-8.
