Marietta, Georgia (11/23/01) - Trevecca and Southern Poly exchanged early blows until the 14th ranked Running Hornets Duriel Coleman hit a three-pointer with 13:09 to go in the first half. The three-pointer pushed Southern Poly to a 19-10 lead. SPSU continued to push their lead until they gained a 19 point margin (39-20) of the game with 6:43 to go in the first half. Trevecca would cut the lead down, but found themselves down by 17 (47-30) at the half time break.
The Running Hornets would continue to hold the Trojans at bay till the 12:15 mark of the second half. SPSU held a 16 point 62-46 lead at that point. Trevecca would rally and outscore the Running Hornets 21-7 over the next 7:36 and pulled to within two points with 4:42 remaining in the game. In fact with 3:13 remaining Trevecca was still within two points at 73-71. Duriel Coleman would hurt the Trojans again as he hit another three-pointer to put SPSU up by 5 points again. Coleman hit another three that basically sealed the win for the Running Hornets with 1:33 to go. That bomb put SPSU up by 7 (83-76) and gave the Running Hornets the room they needed to pull out the 87-83 victory. Southern Poly improved to 5-0 on the year and gained revenge for the Trojans upset in Nashville last season.
After shooting just 11 of 26 (42.3%) from the field in the first half, Trevecca improved to 16 of 29 in the second half (55.2%). Trevecca outscored (53-40), out rebounded (24-18), and had more assists (7-6) than Southern Poly in the second half. Trevecca's B.T. Warren led the team in scoring with 21 points and added 5 rebounds and a steal to his totals. Will Partin scored 14, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out three assists, picked up 4 steals and hit 4 of 6 from three-point range. Wesley Poe led the team with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. The freshman also added 10 points and 2 assists
