TREVECCA VS. BELHAVEN COLLEGE
Jackson, MS (11/19/01) - The Trevecca men's basketball team had traveled to Jackson, Mississippi the last two seasons and come home with narrow loses. This year the team apparently decided to make sure the game wasn't in questions late.
Trevecca led by just 4 points (39-35) at the halftime break. Trevecca hit 17-32 (53%) from the field in the first half, but hit just 1 of 8 three point attempts in the first half.
Trevecca came out and put the game out of reach early in the second half Trevecca built what would be a 28 point lead by the midway point of the second half. Belhaven would rally and close the gap to 18 behind some hot three point shooting from Jared Tauzier. Tauzier hit three consecutive three pointers to make things interesting. Trevecca halted the surge and secured the victory by hitting 19 of 34 (56%) from the field in the second half. Trevecca ended up settling for a 98-80 victory over the scrappy Belhaven club. Trevecca improved to 3-1 with the victory.
Booker Warren, playing in his second game for Trevecca, led the team with 23 points as he hit 10 of 17 from the field. Marshall Hyler added 22 points after hitting 9 of 16 from the field. Will Partin added 12 points and led the team with 5 assists. Darryl Keckler led the team with 4 steals and 8 rebounds. Wesley Poe had a game high 5 blocks and grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 steals.
