Trojans vs Mid-Continent (Homecoming 2001)
Trevecca 125 Mid-Continent 73
Nashville, Tennessee (11/02/01)--Homecoming 2001 was a mystery about to unfold for many reasons. The first reason had to be the influx of 8 new players to the team and how would those mesh with the 7 returning players from last year's national championship tournament team.
Mid-Continent started the game with back-to-back jumpers to take a 4-0 lead with 19:06 remaining in the first half. Trevecca wasn't fazed by the early deficient by hitting 5 of their first 6 three-point attempts. Trevecca pulled to a 18-8 lead with 15:34 remaining in the first half. Darryl Keckler led the charge by hitting 3 three-pointers and Will Partin hit two to gain the early advantage. Trevecca didn't cool off till the 3:40 mark of the first half. The Trojans found themselves ahead 63-21 (42 point lead) at that point in the game. Trevecca ended the half with a 35-point 70-35 lead.
The second half saw much of the same as the Trojans would continue to score at will and continued to hit their open shots. Trevecca would eventually claim the 125-73 victory on homecoming night.
Trevecca had 6 players score in double figures while Bootsy Hyler and Wesley Poe both missed scoring a double-double on opening night. Hyler scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds, Poe had 15 points and 9 rebounds.
