Moore Gym (01/19/02) - Trevecca came into this afternoon's game looking to
bounce back from losing two in a row to start the conference season. Trevecca
hit the opening basket, but Freed-Hardeman answered with a 11-2 run to claim a
11-4 lead with 17:20 to go in the first half. With 12:05 to go in the half the
Lions held a 6-point (23-17) lead. The Lions made another move and outscored
the Trojans 17-6 to pull ahead by 17 (40-23) with 1:23 to go in the first half.
With the game slipping out of control Trevecca answered with a 8-2 run to close
the gap to 11 points (42-31) at the break.
Both teams exchanged baskets over the first three minutes of the second
half. With 17:10 to go in the game Freed-Hardeman held a 12 point (53-41) lead.
Trevecca made another move and posted a 15-3 run to tie the game at 56 with
13:22 to go. Freed was able to pull by 6 again without giving up the lead. The
tie was the first in the game since the two teams were tied at 4. With Freed
leading 67-61 and 8:45 remaining Trevecca rallied again. This time the 14-7
rally resulted in the Trojans taking their first lead since the opening basket
gave them a 2-0 lead. With Trevecca leading 75-74 and 2:51 remaining in the
game the Lions sealed the game with a 8-0 run that gave the 11th ranked Lions a
82-75 lead with 1:10 remaining in the game. The Lions held on to claim the
89-84 victory.
Wesley Poe tied the Trevecca single season record for blocks in a season
with his three blocks today. Poe scored 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, blocked
3 shots, dished out 5 assists, and only had one turnover in 29 minutes of play.
Poe was 7 of 8 from the field and hit all 4 free throw attempts. Curtis Lewis
scored 18 points off the bench as he hit 4 of 5 from three point range and 7 of
10 from the field. Will Partin hit 5 three pointers and scored 17 for Trevecca.
Partin dished out 6 assists and had 3 steals in the game. Marshall Hyler added
10 points and 5 rebounds. Darryl Keckler led the team with 7 assists and
matched Poe's team high 3 blocks.
Trevecca hit 33 of 71 (46.5%) from the field, 11 of 34 (32.4%) from three
point range, and hit 7 of 10 from the foul line. Freed won the rebounding
battle 33-32. Trevecca drops to 13-7 overall and 0-3 in the TranSouth Athletic
Conference.
