Moore Gym (01/17/02) - Union started the game with a 23-6 run that gave them
a 17 point lead with 13:27 remaining in the first half. With 2:10 remaining in
the half and Union leading by their largest margin (18) of the game, Trevecca
made a run that pulled them to within 9 point with 16:13 to go in the game.
Trevecca had cut the lead to just 13 points (49-36) at the halftime break. The
Trojans continued to cut into the lead and finished the 19-10 run with a
3-pointer by Marshall Hyler with 16:13 to go in the game. Union held a 55-46
lead at that point and both teams exchanged baskets for the most part for the
next 4 minutes. Union edged out again to a 13 point (64-51) lead with 12:14 to
go. Trevecca answered with a 7-0 run that pulled the Trojans to within 6 points
(64-58) with 10:45 to go. Trevecca was never able to get any closer and Union
was able to hold on for the 83-75 victory.
Darryl Keckler led Trevecca with 17 points after hitting 4 of 8 from
three-point range. Marshall Hyler added 13 points, Wesley Poe scored 12 and led
the team with 6 rebounds. David Stark scored 8, had 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks in
just 18 minutes of play. Stark and Hyler were both saddled with foul trouble
throughout the game. Will Partin finished with 4 assists and 3 steals to lead
the team in both categories.
Trevecca hit 27 of 57 (47.4%) from the field, 9 of 23 (39.1%) from
three-point range, and 12 of 16 (75%) from the free throw line. Union won the
battle of the boards 33-22. Union shot 30 of 47 (63.8%) from the field and hit
6 of 13 (46.2%) from three-point range. Derrick Underwood posted a
double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) for Union.
Trevecca will host #11 Freed-Hardeman on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
