Pulaski, TN. (02/28/02) - Trevecca opened the first round of the TranSouth tournament against the very physical play of the Indians of Martin Methodist. The Indians jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead early on and led by as much as 12 points in the first half. However, the Trojans, led by the inside games of Wesley Poe and Jared Austin who combined for 22 points in the first half, mounted a comeback and went into half time trailing by only 4 points 37-41.

In the second half the Trojans jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 6-0 run. Martin Methodist then answered with back-to-back three pointers from Johnny Goodman who led the Indians on the night with 25 points. Both teams then swapped baskets for much of the second half with neither team leading by more than 5 points. In the end, the Trojans came up four points short losing 75-71.

In the game, Wesley Poe led the Trojans in scoring with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Jared Austin also had 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Darryl Keckler added 14 points and 6 rebounds. As a team, the Trojans went 25 for 54 from the field (46.9%), 4 for 18 from the three point line (22.2%), and 17 for 25 from the free throw line (68%). The Trojans finish the year with a 16-14 record overall.
