Henderson, TN. (02/14/02) - The Trojans were looking to gain revenge for
Freed-Hardeman's victory at Moore Gym earlier this season. The Trojans hit the
opening bucket to take a 2-0 lead, but would never hold the lead again in the
game. Though Freed-Hardeman would hold a 13 point lead at one point in the
game, Trevecca was never really out of the game, but could never over take the
Lions.
Trevecca did tie the game at two different points in the first half. With
9:17 to go in the half Trevecca tied the game at 25 after a 4-0 run. The Lions
would build their lead to 6 again before the Trojans would tie the game at 39
apiece with 1:45 to go in the half. Freed would close the half with a 10-2 run
and then added a 5 straight points to start the second half. The 15-2 run put
the Lions up 54-41 with 18:00 to go in the game. The Trojans would rally
several times, but could never get closer than 4 points the rest of the way.
The Lions lead rested in the 4 to 7 point range for the remainder of the game
and the Lions settled for a 86-81 victory.
Wesley Poe had his 5th double-double of the year and his 3rd in a row. Poe
scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The freshmen also added a block and a
steal to his totals. Marshall Hyler scored 20 to lead the Trojans in scoring
and had 4 rebounds on top of that. Will Partin and Jared Austin scored 17
points apiece. Partin had 4 assists and 2 steals. Austin had 6 rebounds and a
steal. Darryl Keckler had 6 rebounds and led the team with 6 assists.
As a team the Trojans hit 32-of-69 (46.4%) from the field, 12-of-29 (41.4%)
from three-point range, and 5-of-10 (50.0%) from the free throw line. The Lions
won the battle of the boards 49-31.
The Trojans fall to 14-11 overall and 1-8 in the TranSouth Athletic
Conference.
