Jackson, Tenn. (02/09/03) - Union started the game with a 6-0 run, but
Trevecca rallied to take 10-9 lead with 15:56 remaining in the first half.
Trevecca eventually would hold a 14-9 lead after completing a 8-0 run. From
that point on the two teams exchanged blows and leads. Trevecca would end the
half with a 12-8 run that gave them a 39-30 lead at the halftime break.
The second half was very similar to the first half. Neither team would hold
more than a 3 point lead until Union pulled ahead 59-52 midway through the
second half. Trevecca rallied and pulled to within one point at 62-61. The game
was nip and tuck the rest of the way, but Trevecca could never get closer than
2 points. Union, the worst free throw shooting team in the TranSouth Athletic
Conference, hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Trevecca hit several three-point baskets down the stretch, but had two
three-point baskets rattle out down the stretch. Union was able to hold on for
the 87-82 victory.
Wesley Poe contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds for his 4th double-double
of the year. Poe, a freshmen from Jackson, has had back to back double-doubles
this week and added 2 steals in tonight's game. Jared Austin scored 15 points,
dished out a team high 5 assists, and grabbed 5 rebounds. Darryl Keckler hit
four three-pointers and tallied 14 points. Will Partin scored 13 points after
hitting three from three-point range. Marshall Hyler added 12 points, 6
rebounds, and 2 steals.
As a team the Trojans hit 30 of 59 (50.8%) from the field, 11 of 21 (52.4%)
from three-point land, and hit 11 of 16 (68.8%) from the foul line. Trevecca
won the rebounding battle 33-29. Union hit 25 of 35 (75.8%) from the foul line.
Union is averaging just 62.1% from the foul line this season. The loss drops
Trevecca to 14-11 overall and 1-7 in the TSAC.
