MEN'S BASKETBALL: TREVECCA VS. LYON COLLEGE SCOTS
Moore Gym (02/07/02) - Lyon started the game with a 5-0 run. Trevecca
answered with 6 consecutive points to take their first lead of the game.
Trevecca wouldn't hold the lead again until they took a 24-22 advantage with
6:54 remaining in the first half. From that point neither team could pull
away and the teams exchanged leads for the remainder of the half. Lyon's
Terry Large hit his 4th three-pointer of the half as time expired to give Lyon
a 37-34 lead at the break.
The first five minutes of the second half were similar to the last five minutes
of the second half as both teams exchanged the lead. Trevecca gained the
lead at 42-40 with 13:55 remaining in the game and would never trail again.
Lyon did stay close for most of the rest of the game and actually tied the game
at 56 on Terry Large's fifth and last three-pointer of the game. From
that point (6:08) in the game, Trevecca would outscore Lyon 16-7 to claim the
victory. Trevecca won for the first time in conference play this year and
improved their overall record to 14-10. Trevecca is now 1-6 in the
TranSouth Athletic Conference.
Trevecca hit 26 of 50 (52.0%) from the field, 2 of 10 (20.0%) from three-point
range, and 18 of 28 (64.3%) from the foul line. Trevecca out rebounded
Lyon 42-37 and forced 9 turnovers with 4 steals. Jared Austin and Wesley
Poe each earned their 3rd double-double of the year. Austin grabbed 10
rebounds and scored 12 points. Poe scored 17 and secured a team high 14
rebounds. Austin had 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal. Poe hit 7 of
8 from the field, had 2 assists, 2 blocks and hit 3 of 4 from the foul line.
Will Partin led the team with 19 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. He also
hit all 8 of his free throw attempts and had 2 rebounds. Marshall Hyler
scored 14 points and had 4 rebounds.
