TREVECCA VS. DRURY COLLEGE
Nassau, Bahamas (12/19/01) - Trevecca's second round opponent in the 2001
Nassau Sunshine Shootout was Drury College of Springfield, Missouri. The
Panthers are a NCAA Division-II member. The
Panthers were playing their first game of the Shootout, while Trevecca was
playing for the second day in a row. Drury took the second all-time meeting
between the two schools with a 86-81 win. Trevecca falls to 10-4 on the season
and 0-2 all-time versus the former NAIA powerhouse.
The Trojans were led by Marshall Hyler who had 19 points and Jared Austin
who had for 15 points for TNU. In todayšs game the Panthers jumped out early
with a 35-22 lead with 6:27 minutes left in the first half and never trailed in
the half. However, the Trojans battled back from this 13 point defecit with a
15-6 run to end the half and trim the Panthers lead to four, 41-37 at the half.
The second half went back and fourth and came down to Drury making crucial free
throws. Trevecca Nazarene had a five point lead 64-59 under ten minutes, but
Drury came charging back with Matt Miller hitting four free throws inside the
two minute mark to help Drury to a 83-79 lead. TNUšs Brandon Howard scored on
a lay up to make it a two point game, but the Panthers Brandon Morris was
fouled twice with 30 seconds remaining. Morris made three of his four free
throws to give Drury the five point 86-81 victory.
The Trojans will play against an opponent to be determined in the final
round of competition of the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout on Friday, December 21 at
10:00 a.m. The Nassau Shootout games will not be
broadcast over 89.1 or 91.5 Life FM.
