Jackson, TN. (12/15/01) - The Trevecca men's basketball team traveled to
Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee for a non-conference battle with the
Eagles. Trevecca defeated Lamuth by 21 points in the second game of the year in
Nashville.
Trevecca started the game on fire and led 10-5 on the Eagles home court
after just a few minutes of play. Lambuth would ease back and eventually
claimed the lead 13-11 after a 8-1 run. Trevecca regained the lead 16-15 with
12:45 remaining in the first half. The teams jockey back and forth until
Lambuth grabbed a 29-28 lead with 5:30 remaining on the first half clock.
Lambuth would extend the lead and held a 41-35 lead at the half time break with
after finishing the half with a 14-7 run.
Trevecca started the second half with a two-point basket, but Lambuth would
roll off the next 4 points to claim their largest lead of the game 48-37 with
18:00 minutes remaining in the game. Trevecca would battle, scrap and claw
their way back into the game, but didn't pull even until they tied the game at
63 with 4:50 remaining in the game. Lambuth held of the Trojans and never let
Trevecca grab the lead until Marshall "Bootsy" Hyler took the inbound
pass and dribbled the length of the floor and floated a 5 foot runner through
the nets with 2.4 seconds remaining in the game. Lambuth couldn't get a shot
off as Brandon Howard stole a pass intended for Bryan Hight as time expired to
secure the victory.
B.T. Warren, who had 17 points in the first half, led the team with 27
points after hitting 7 of 13 from the field, 3 of 4 from three-point range, and
hit 10-12 from the foul line. Brandon Howard, a freshman from Nashville,
replaced Will Partin in the starting lineup and scored 8 points, handed out 4
assists and had 2 steals. Howard also turned the ball over only 2 times in 32
minutes of play. Curtis Lewis, a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois also assisted
in the point guard duties and had only 1 turnover in 8 minutes of play.
Marshall Hyler, who scored the game winner, had 15 points and 7 rebounds in the
game. Jared Austin had 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Trevecca hit 25 of 58 (43.1%) from the field, 7 of 16 (43.8%) from
three-point range, and hit 18 of 23 (78.3%) from the foul line. Trevecca forced
21 Lambuth turnovers with 8 steals.
