2000 Men's Soccer
Season Review
January, 2000 recruiting for the fall 2000
soccer season began in earnest. Dr. Stan Herod was hired as the
coach for men's and women's soccer, and shortly thereafter the first
contacts were made with potential players. After several general
tryouts 19 men were selected--15 freshmen, 2 sophomores, 1 junior
and 1 senior. The starting lineup consisted of 11 freshmen, 1
sophomore, 1 junior and 1 senior. Although the team ended the season
with a 4-12 won-loss record, the team won the last two games of the
season and claimed a won over conference foe Freed-Hardeman during
the season.
Highlights of the season included total
point leaders Co-Most Valuable Player Brandon Bartholomew with 7
goals and 3 assists for 17 total points and Co-MVP Brandon Edmonson
with 4 goals and 2 assists for a total of 10 total points. Sophomore
transfer and co-captain Matt Hurst won the Most Inspirational Award
and senior sweeper and co-captain Daniel Rucker won the Coach’s
Award.
All of last year’s team with the exception
of Brandon Bartholomew will be returning for the 2001 season. Red
shirts Jeremy Durancea, Omar Minuta, and Daniel Stricklin will add
to the strength of next year’s Trojans. The men’s 2001 season
begins with a mini-tournament with Mount Vernon Nazarene University
and Olivet Nazarene University on the Mount Vernon Campus, September
6-8, 2001.
