visited Moore Gym and came away with a key victory in a non-conference
match-up of top NAIA Division-1 women's basketball programs. Cumberland,
who had been ranked most of last season, came into the game unranked but
moving back in that direction. Trevecca, who started the season as the
11th ranked team, came into the game ranked 16th in the first regular
season poll of the season.
Cumberland hit 5 of 15 three-point attempts in
the first half and claimed a 33-31 halftime lead. Cumberland also went
to the foul line 10 times in the first half and hit on all attempts.
Trevecca rallied in the second half and hit 13
of 27 field-goal attempts and 4 of their 8 three-point attempts, but
those efforts weren't enough; the Lady Bulldogs hit 6 more three-point
attempts to hold off the Lady Trojans 76-73.
Trevecca hit 25 of 55 (45.5%) from the field, 5
of 10 (50.0%) from three-point range, and 18 of 24 (75.0%) from the foul
line. Cumberland won the battle of the boards 37-30. Molly Schoenberg
scored 19 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 5 steals in the game.
Jennifer Wilson led the team with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Jamie Mills
led the team with 6 assists and had 5 rebounds.
