Trevecca 71 Lipscomb 67
Nashville, TN (12/07/00)-#16 Trevecca built a 18 point second half
lead, then held on to beat Lipscomb for the second time in a row and the
second time in the history of the series. Trevecca and Lipscomb were
playing in the Lipscomb High School gym because Lipscomb University is
in the process of replacing McQuiddy Gym with a new 5,000 seat arena.
Lipscomb has moved from the NAIA to NCAA Division-1 play this season.
Trevecca and Lipscomb exchanged the lead for the first 16 minutes
until Trevecca ended the first half with 8 unanswered points to claim a
36-27 halftime lead. Trevecca then scored the first 7 points to start
the second half and built a 43-27 lead with 18 minutes to go in the
game. Trevecca would eventually hold a 17 point lead with 6 minutes to
go in the game. Lipscomb rallied and actually tied the game at 65 with
less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. Trevecca would then find the
will to close the game with a 6-2 run to seal the 71-67 victory.
Jennifer Wilson found her range from three-point range as she hit all
four of her three-point attempts. Wilson had surprisingly hit just 3 of
her 29 three-point attempts this season. Wilson led the team with 26
points and hit all 6 of her free throw attempts. Wilson also had 8
rebounds, 5 on the offensive end of the floor. Charity Williams had her
second consecutive double-double as she scored 10 points and grabbed 11
rebounds. Ashley Boykin came off the bench to add her usual scoring
punch. Boykin hit three of four from three-point range and scored 11
points. Molly Schoenberg scored 9 points and led the team with 3 blocks.
Holly Carter led the team with 3 steals and 4 assists.
