Henderson, Tennessee (03/02/01)-Trevecca was
looking to advance to the TranSouth Tournament Finals for the second
year in a row, but the Lady Lions were prepared to send the Lady
Trojans packing and hoping for a at-large bid to the NAIA Tournament.
Trevecca started the game with a 4-0 run, but
Freed rallied with a 15-6 run that pulled the Lady Lions ahead
23-14. Trevecca answered with a 15-4 run to regain the lead
29-27. Trevecca's Charity Williams hit a layup as time expired
to give Trevecca a 31-30 lead at the break.
Freed hit back-to-back three point shots to
start the second half and never trailed again. Trevecca would
rally, Freed would pull away again just at the lead was seriously
threatened. The Lady Lions would hold on to take the rubber
match and the season series 2-1 and also reclaim the lead in the
all-time series 5-4 with a 81-72 score.
Trevecca hit 28 of 59 (47.5%) from the field,
2 of 12 (16.7 %) from three-point range, and 14 of 22 (63.6%) from the
foul line. Freed won the rebounding battle 41-31, Trevecca
turned the ball over 16 times and only had 4 steals. Freed
turned the ball 17 times and had 8 steals.
Ashley Boykin led the team with 18 points, had
5 rebounds and a team high 4 assists. Molly Schoenberg had 15,
Charity Williams scored 10 and had a team high 6 rebounds.
Jennifer Wilson scored 11 was 4 for 6 from the field.
