Marietta, GA (01/06/01)--The Lady Trojans met
the Running Eagles for the final game of the Life University Classic
at the Eagles' Nest and faced the Running Eagles' huge home court
advantage. The Eagles came into the game having won all 15 games at
home in their first two years of women's basketball.
The game started with a 4-0 run by the Lady
Trojans. After Life tied the game at 4, each team did not pull more
than two points ahead until Life claimed a 16-10 lead with 13:47
remaining in the first half. Trevecca rallied and closed the gap to
two points at 16-14. That was as close as the Lady Trojans would get
for the rest of the half. Life went on to build a 41-30 halftime lead.
In the second half Trevecca rallied and closed
the gap to 8 points on two occasions, but it could get no closer. Life
eventually built a 23-point lead and held on to claim a 21 point 89-68
victory.
Charity Williams had her second double-double
in as many nights, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Jennifer
Wilson added 20 points. Jamie Mills and Sara Menees led the team with
3 assists, Molly Schoenberg and Ashley Boykin led the team with 3
steals apiece, and Charity Williams hit 11 of 12 free throws. Williams
hit all 10 of her free throws against Converse and her first 9 against
Life for 19 in a row.
Trevecca hit 21 of 51
(41.2%) shots from the field, 2 of 11 (18.2%) from the three-point
line, and 24 of 29 (82.8%) from the foul line. Life won the battle of
the boards 53 to 26. Trevecca turned the ball over 23 times, forcing
Life into 19 miscues with 9
steals.
