Lebanon, TN (01/02/01)--Trevecca took the lead
to start the game and then led for most of the rest of the game. The
only problem is that Cumberland, who held the lead for about a
combined minute the entire game, held the lead for the final 15
seconds of the game. Jessica Jones hit a 6-foot basket with 14.7
seconds remaining, and Cumberland held on to win 67-66.
Trevecca led for most of the first half and
led 36-32 at the halftime break after both teams shot above 43% from
the field in the first half. Cumberland trailed despite hitting 60%
from the field and holding 20-11 rebounding advantage in the first
half.
Trevecca started the second half by continuing
to build its lead. Trevecca eventually led by 11 points two different
times. The Lady Trojans led 46-35 with just over 12 minutes remaining
in the game. Cumberland began to mount its challenge at this point.
Jessica Jones, who was held to just 4 first-half points, began to take
advantage of Trevecca foul trouble in the post. Jones finished with a
game high 25 points. Cumberland took its first lead of the second half
at 63-61 with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Trevecca
bounced back and took a 66-65 lead with less than a minute remaining.
Molly Schoenberg led Trevecca with 19 points
and grabbed 5 rebounds. Stephanie Arnett added 12 points and 4
rebounds. Jennifer Wilson scored 11 points and snagged 4 rebounds.
Each team turned the ball over 18 times, and Cumberland won the battle
of the boards 32-24. Trevecca hit 27 of 54 (50.0%) shots from the
field, 2 of 7 (28.6%) from three-point range, and 10 of 15 (66.7%)
from the foul line.
