#25 Trevecca 91 BERRY 55
Nashville, Tennessee (02/27/01)-Trevecca found
a couple of hours before tonight's game that they had moved back into
the NAIA Division-1 Top 25 poll and reaffirmed that ranking with their
second win in four days over Berry College. Trevecca evened the
all-time series with Berry at 6-6 with the 91-55 victory
Trevecca started the game with a 7-2
run. Later Trevecca held a 13-6 lead with 13:35 to go in the
half. Berry would rally and closed to within 2 points (15-13)
with a 7-2 run. With 2:53 to go in the first half Trevecca led
32-27. Trevecca made their final run of the half and outscored
Berry 8-0 over the remainder of the half to claim a 40-27 halftime
lead.
Trevecca started the second half as they
started the first half with a 9-2 run that put the Trojans in control
of the game 49-29 with 17:53 to go. Trevecca would hold a 20
point lead for most of the rest of the contest and eventually won the
game 91-55.
Trevecca will travel to #13 Freed-Hardeman
Friday, March 2, 2001 at 7:00 for a semi-final match-up in the TranSouth
Conference Tournament. Trevecca and Freed-Hardeman split the season
series, with both teams winning their home game. Should Trevecca
advance they would play the winner of the other semi-final game (Lyon
at Union) on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. If Union wins, the
winner of the Trevecca/Freed-Hardeman game would travel to
Union. If Lyon were to win they would play at the winner of the
Trevecca/Freed-Hardeman game's home court.
Trevecca hit 35 of 60 (58.3%) from the field,
8 of 13 (61.5 %) from three-point range, and 13 of 17 (76.5%) from the
foul line. Trevecca forced Berry into 25 turnovers with 12
steals. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 36-29 and only had
17 turnovers in the game.
Jennifer Wilson, who was named to the
TranSouth All-Conference First Team earlier in the day, led Trevecca
with 16 points after hitting 7 of 10 from the field. Holly
Carter hit 3 of 3 from three-point range and finished with15
points. Charity Williams hit of 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Ashley Boykin added 11 points. Jamie Mills contributed a team
high 8 assists and also had 5 rebounds. Sara Menees had a team
high 3 steals. Stephanie Arnett had 6 rebounds and 2
steals.
