Trevecca 88 LEE 67
Mt. Berry, Georgia (02/24/01)-Riding the wave
of emption from a pre-game ceremony honoring the team's seniors, the
Lady Vikings played a strong first half and led Trevecca at the
break. However, the lady Trojans clamped down defensively over
the final 20 minutes and rolled to an 88-67 victory on Senior Day at
Berry. It was the final regular season game for both teams, and
it gave Trevecca a season sweep of the series.
Trevecca took a 5-point lead early on, but
Berry rallied to take control of the first half with a 8-0 run.
The run gave Berry a 21-13 lead with 12 minutes to go in the
half. Trevecca rallied and regained the lead 26-23 with 7:14 to
go in the half. Berry scratched out a 38-37 lead by the
time the teams reached the halftime break.
In the second half, the game remained tight
early on. The game was tied at 48 with 13:30 remaining in the
game. However, from there Trevecca seized control on the
defensive end, going on a 12-2 run to grab a 60-50 lead with 8:30
remaining on a layup by senior Molly Schoenberg. The Lady
Trojans shut down Rachael Roberts in the post, and they allowed just
one Berry field goal over the final five minutes of the game.
With the Trevecca lead at 13 points, Berry closed the gap to just 10
points, but Trevecca closed the game with an 11-0 run to claim their
10th win over their last 11 games.
