Nashville, TN (11-07-00)-The Trevecca Trojans
faced a team that returned four starters from a team that won 19
games last season. From the start coach Sam Harris knew this game
would be a tough one to win. Emmanuel hit the first basket of the
game and then held a 6-4 lead in the first couple of minutes.
Trevecca rebounded and built a 7-point (17-10) lead with 14:34 left
in the first half. The Lions answered with a 8-0 run to retake the
lead. The teams exchanged the lead until Trevecca made a late run to
end the half. With Emmanuel holding a 36-35 lead at the 2:54 mark of
the first half, Trevecca closed the half with a 12-4 run that gave
them the momentum and a 47-40 lead at the halftime break.
The second half saw another run for the
Trojans. Trevecca started the second half by outscoring Emmanuel
23-8. The run gave the Trojans a 70-48 lead with 13:54 remaining in
the game. The combination of the late first half run and the early
second half run made the Trojans outscore the Lions 35-12 over a
nine- minute span. This run gave the Trojans the cushion they would
need to claim their second victory of the year. Emmanuel would make
one final run. With 5:40 remaining in the game Trevecca held a 86-66
lead. Emmanuel outscored Trevecca 20-8 over the next 5:07 and pulled
to within eight points with :33 remaining in the game. Trevecca held
off the Lions over the final few seconds to claim a 97-86 victory.
Micheal Blivens led the Trojans in scoring for
the second consecutive game. Blivens scored 27 points and grabbed 11
rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Blivens also
added four rebounds and picked up three steals. Jared Austin, who
led TNU with double-double games last season, scored 22 points and
grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the
year. Austin added three assists and was 8-9 from the field. Eric
Addie scored 16 points, and Darryl Keckler added 10 points to give
the Trojans four players with double-figure scoring. Addie also led
the team with four assists and claimed three steals to tie Will
Partin for the team high.
Trevecca hit 30 of 54 (55.6%) shots from the
field, 6 of 18 (33.3%) from beyond the three-point arch, and 31 of
45 (68.9%) from the foul line. Trevecca also won the battle of the
boards, grabbing 42 while Emmanuel claimed only 26 for the game.
