FOR A HALF, BUT FALLS TO TOP SEED TRANSY

Okla. (03/15/01)– Top-seeded Transylvania used
a 14-0 run midway through the second half to post an 82-68 victory
Wednesday against Trevecca in the opening round of the NAIA Division
1 Men's Basketball National Championship at the Tulsa Convention
Center.
The Pioneers rebounded from a 37-35 halftime
deficit to improve to 27-1 on teh year. They have now won 22
consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the
NAIA.
At the start of the second half.
Transylvania scored the first seven points of the period to grab the
lead for good, 42-37 . The Pioneers pushed the margin to seven
points before Trevecca battled back, cutting the deficit to 50-46 on
a basket by senior Michael Blivens.
Senior forward Anthony Staten then keyed the
Pioneers' decisive run. He scored the first six points and
added an assist during the stretch to give Transylvania a 64-46 lead
with 9:53 left.
Senior Collier Mills led the Pioneers with 21 points.
He also had 10 rebounds. Trevecca ends its year with a 21-12
record, while Blivens had 19 points in his final game in a Trevecca
uniform. Sophomore Darryl Keckler added 18 points for the
Trojans.
