TROJANS FALL IN
TSAC SEMIFINALS
Union 76 Trevecca 65
Jackson, Tennessee (3/03/01)-The
54th meeting between Union and Trevecca in men's basketball was set
to be a war. Both teams had hopes of advancing to the
TranSouth Athletic Conference Finals on Tuesday night. Both
teams would go into the game with less than their full
arsenal. Trevecca entered the game without Second Team
All-TSAC post player Jared Austin. Austin wouldn't suit up due
to the flu, leaving the already small lineup, at a huge disadvantage
size wise. Union entered the game with just 8 players in
uniform, but thier top 7 were there.
Trevecca answered any questions of
being intimadated by the Bulldogs size with a 8-0 run to start the
game. Trevecca later led 27-19 late in the first half.
Union rallied and tied the game twice, first at 29, then at 31
apiece. Trevecca pulled away again and held a 37-33 halftime
lead.
Trevecca never trailed in the first
half and continued that pace into the second half. Union
continued to make mini runs at the Trojans, but didn't take their
first lead of the game until more than 30 minutes of game time had
expired. Union took their first lead at 54-52 on a three-point
shot by Anthony Brooks. Trevecca tied the game at 54 but would
never reclaim the lead. Union rolled off 10 unanswered points
to take a 64-54 lead. Trevecca never got closer than 7 points
the remainder of the game. Union advanced to the TSAC finals
by way of a 76-65 victory. Union now leads the all-time series
35-19.
Trevecca hit 23 of 58 (39.7%) from
the field, 9 of 25 (36.0%) from three-point range, and 10 of 11
(90.9%) from the foul line. Union won the rebounding battle
32-25. Each team had 10 turnovers in the game.
Michael Blivens had his 19th twenty
point or more night with 22 points. Blivens also led the team
with 8 rebounds and hit all 8 of his free throw attempts. Will
Partin hit for 14 points and hit 4 of 10 from three-point
range. Eric Addie scored 10 points and hit 2 of 5 from
three-point range. David Stark scored 2 points, and had 5
