Nashville, Tennessee (3/01/01)-The
61st all-time meeting between Trevecca and Freed-Hardeman in men's
basketball would hold the answer to who would win the season series
and who would advance to the TranSouth Tournament semifinals.
The two teams split the season's two regular season games, with both
teams winning on their home court. Trevecca would play with a
ill Jared Austin, while Freed would play without All-TranSouth First
Teamer Jamie Norsworthy (out with a torn ACL).
The game started with Trevecca
rolling out to a 11-3 lead. The Lions would roar back and
eventually claimed a 26-25 lead with 5:12 to go in the first
half. Trevecca battled back and reclaimed the lead 36-28 at
the half time break after outscoring the Lions 11-2 over the final
five minutes of the opening half.
The second half saw both
teams start slowly on offense, Trevecca really struggled scoring
just 9 points in the first 9 minutes of the second half. Freed
scored just 16 over that same period of time and closed the gap to
just one point (45-44) with 10:58 to go in the game. Trevecca
ripped off 10 consecutive points to claim a 55-44 lead with 9:06 to
go. After the next basket Freed would never get to within
single digits of Trevecca. Trevecca continued to build on its
lead and won going away 78-56. Trevecca now leads 45-16 in the
all-time series. Trevecca is 9-3 over their last 12
games.
Trevecca will travel to Jackson,
Tennessee for a TranSouth Tournament semifinal match-up with Union
University Saturday, March 3, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. The two teams
split a pair of regular season games. Trevecca fell 92-90 in
overtime in Jackson. Trevecca answered with a 83-64 victory in

In other first round action Union defeated Berry 76-67 and Lyon
upset Martin Methodist 73-69. Lee, who received a first round
bye, will host Lyon in the semifinals. The winners will play
at the highest remaining seeds home court for the championship game.
Trevecca hit 27 of 55 (49.1%) from
the field, 4 of 15 (26.7%) from three-point range, and 20 of 27
(74.1%) from the foul line. Freed won the battle of the boards
39-38 and turned the ball over 17 times as Trevecca had 12
steals. Trevecca suffered just 14 turnovers in the game.
Michael Blivens had a game high 30
points and added 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Blivens
has scored 30 or more points 8 times this season. He has
scored 20 or more points 18 times this year. Eric Addie added
13 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Addie hit 3 of 4
three-point attempts. Jeremy Austin scored 10 points and had 6
rebounds. Will Partin led the team with 5 assists and had 2
steals. David Stark had 7 points, 5 rebounds and a block in
the game.
