Nashville, TN (01/22/01)-The Trojans hosted
Bethel in a non-conference battle between two former conference
foes. Trevecca held a 35-30 advantage in the series prior to
tonight's game. The 65 previous meetings is one of the longest
series in Trevecca basketball history.
Bethel came with their sneakers laced up and
ready to play. The Wildcats opened the game with a 22-13 run
to claim an early 9 point lead. Bethel held off the Trojans
for most of the first half and still led by 9 points with 5:24
remaining in the first half. Trevecca would begin their rally
by closing the gap to just one point (42-41) at the halftime
break. Trevecca outscored Bethel 18-8 over the final five
minutes of the first half.
Trevecca completed a 35-16 run by taking a
10-point with a 18-7 run to start the second half. Trevecca
continued to build on its lead throughout the second half and
claimed a 103-81 victory over Bethel. Trevecca now owns a
36-30 advantage in the all-time series.
Trevecca hit 38 of 79 (48.1%) from the
field, 3 of 19 (15.8%) from three-point range, and 24 of 28 (85.7%)
from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 50-36 and
forced Bethel into 30 turnovers with 18 steals.
Michael Blivens scored a game high 36 points
and grabbed 13 rebounds to complete the double-double. Blivens
also had 8 offensive rebounds in the game and had 3 steals.
Jeremy Austin scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds. The senior
now has 947 points in his career. Jared Austin scored 13
points and had 5 steals and 5 assists. Will Partin scored 11
points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Partin also led the team with 6
assists. Partin and Corey Lucas led the team with 5 steals
apiece. Eric Addie scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds,
dished out 3 assists, and had 2 steals. David Stark scored 4
points and grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 blocks.
