Freed 87 Trevecca
86
Henderson, TN (01/19/01)-Well for the second
game in a row Trevecca found themselves in position to win a key
TranSouth road game. Unfortunately for the second game in a
row, luck would not fall on the Trojans side.
Trevecca led for a great deal of the first
half, but a late rally by Freed allowed the home team to build a
42-37 halftime lead.
The second half started with the Trojans
closing the margin and finally taking what appeared to be control of
the game late. Freed would rally, with two three-point baskets
by Eric Jones, and tied the game at 84 with less than a minute to
play. Trevecca's Cory Lucas would then hit what appeared to be
a three-point basket with 3.3 seconds remaining.
Freed-Hardeman called a timeout and during the timeout the officials
changed the Lucas basket to a two-point shot. The officials
also allowed Freed to inbound the ball at midcourt. Freed's
Jamie Norsworthy received the inbound pass and dribbled a couple of
times before launching a shot that hit off the front rim, bounced
off the back rim, then the glass and then spun in well after the
final horn had sounded. It was a three-point basket that game
Freed the victory.
Trevecca hit 29 of 61 (47.5%) from the
field, 8 of 21 (38.1%) from three-point range, and 20 of 29 (69.0%)
from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 41-40 and
forced Freed into 13 turnovers with just one credited
steal.
Jared Austin led the team with 26 points and
7 rebounds. The sophomore from Sparta hit 8 of 10 shots from
the field. Darryl Keckler hit for 18 points and grabbed 6
rebounds. Michael Blivens scored 13 points and grabbed 6
rebounds. Eric Addie scored 11 points and snatched 6
rebounds. Will Partin rounded out the 5 Trojans who scored in
double figures as he added 10 points.
