Nashville, TN (01/11/01)-Trevecca, playing
its first game since December 22, faced a team that had defeated the
Trojans in early November. Belhaven came into the night's contest
with a 10-6 record and fresh off a victory at Indiana University
Southeast.
Trevecca and Belhaven battled like true
warriors during the first half. With 4:31remaining in the first
half, Trevecca held a 27-26 lead. The Trojans rattled off 7
unanswered points to claim a 34-26 lead with 3:01 left in the first
half. The Trojans held on for a 41-33 lead at the halftime break.
The second half started with Belhaven
cutting the Trojans' lead to 3 points (47-42) with 16:25 remaining
in the game. Trevecca rolled off a 16-4 run that, for all practical
purposes, ended the Blazers hopes. When the smoke cleared, Trevecca
held a 63-46 lead with 10:04 remaining in the game. The Trojans'
lead fluctuated for a few more minutes but began to swell again.
Trevecca actually held its largest lead (26) at the end of the game
and claimed a 85-59 victory.
Michael Blivens is nearing the 1,000 point
mark after only 48 games in a Trojan uniform. With his 24 points
tonight, Blivens is within 22 points of the 1,000 point mark with
978 points. Blivens also added 4 assists and a steal to his totals.
Blivens hit 3 of 4 three-point shots and 7 of 11 free throws. Jeremy
Austin scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Eric Addie and Will
Partin scored 10 points each. Partin added a team-high 6 assists and
4 steals. Jared Austin scored 8 points and had a team-high 7
rebounds. Austin also had 2 blocks and had a steal. Darryl Keckler
didn't score in the game but had 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 4
assists.
Trevecca hit 30 of 63 (47.6%) from the
field, 8 of 18 (44.4%) from three-point range, and 17 of 20 (85.0%)
from the foul line. Each team had 30 rebounds for the game. Trevecca
forced Belhaven into 24 turnovers with 11 steals. Trevecca turned
the ball over only 9 times and allowed only one steal in the game.
