Lyon would hold the lead for the next 33:20 of the game, the only
problem was that the game would last for another 33:25. Lyon
held a 33-24 halftime lead.
Lyon actually built a 12-point
(40-28) lead with 17:01 remaining in the game and held a 10 point
(56-46) lead with 5:38 remaining in the game. With 4:48
remaining in the game Lyon led 58-49. Trevecca closed the lead
to just 1-point (61-60) with 1:35 remaining after a 12-4 run.
Lyon built the lead to 5 points again after hitting 4 consecutive
free throws (2 from a technical foul) with 1:09 remaining.
Trevecca closed the gap to just 1-point again with two 3-point
baskets surrounding 2 more Lyon free throws. The second of the
3-point baskets was a bank shot from Darryl Keckler with 5 seconds
remaining in the game. Lyon would attempt to inbound the ball,
but Michael Blivens drew a charge on Brandon Byrd. Blivens hit
both free throw attempts to put the Trojans up 71-70 with just 5
seconds remaining. The Trojans would hold on to claim the hard
fought road victory.
Trevecca hit 24 of 49 (49.0%) from
the field, 9 of 17 (52.9%) from three-point range, and 14 of 20
(58.3%) from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the
boards 38-34 and forced Lyon into 7 turnovers with 5
steals.
Darryl Keckler scored a game high
19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Keckler hit 7 of 11 from the
field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Michael Blivens
scored 17 points and hit 6 of 10 shots from the field. Will Partin
scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Jeremy Austin scored
10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
