Gerald Harris begins his third season as assistant coach. Harris,
who played for MTSU from 1986 to 1990, holds the school’s all-time
assist record and is second on the Blue Raiders all-time steals
list. Harris was a key member of the ‘86-’87 and ‘88-’89
teams that participated in the NCAA tournament and the ‘87-’88
team that went to the NIT Tournament. The ‘88-’89 NCAA
Tournament team upset highly regarded Florida State in the first
round after trailing by 17 points with 16 minutes to play--one of
the most memorable moments in MTSU basketball history. Harris was
all-state and honorable mention all-American at Chattanooga Tyner
where he set the school’s all-time scoring mark.
Harris will serve as Head Coach Sam Harris’s head assistant
again for this season. Coach Sam Harris says that Gerald is just
what the doctor ordered: "He’s exactly what we were looking
for in terms of experience, contacts, recruiting and teaching the
game of basketball to our players. Gerald is a great person and is a
great role model for our students."
